As a small part of the larger history of the Cregan-Gill family, here we look at the children of Peter John and Amy Gertrude Gill.
Peter Gill was born in Murwillumbah on 08/10/1899 and grew up in that town. He married Amy Gertrude Doyle in 1923. They lived in the Murwillumbah area until the early 1930s, when they moved to Tweed Heads. Together, they had four children, all born in Murwillumbah (three boys and one girl):
The third child, Harry Gill died on the day he was born - 04/02/1927 (NSW death reg. 3967/1927). He was buried in the Banner Street Cemetery in Murwillumbah. Each of the other three children has their own section on this page.

Lynn Catherine GillLynn Catherine Gill was born on 23/11/1924. At the age of 12, in 1937, Lynn had her letter appear in the "Gumblossom" feature of the Catholic Freeman's Journal. Lynn moved from Tweed Heads to Sydney for a job in a barrister's office around 1947. However, it seems that she returned to Tweed Heads around 1948, a move perhaps instigated by her mother's passing. Electoral rolls indicate that Lynn lived in Bay Street on her return and later with her father at 5 Angela Street, where she stayed until the mid-1950s. She was working as a telephonist during that time, presumably in the local telephone exchange. A photo of Lynn on the beach at Greenmount, Coolangatta, appeared in the Brisbane Telegraph in January 1950 (middle girl in the bottom left photo). Around 1956, Lynn headed to Sydney again, moving to 24 Bellevue Road, Bellevue Hill, again doing telephonist work. At the time of her father's death in 1963, Lynn, according to Peter Gill's probate documents, was living at 14 Redmyre Road, Strathfield, still doing telephony. In the mid-1960s, Lynn Gill returned to Tweed Heads once more, living at 14 Frances Street in 1966 and then moving to 32 Thomson Street around 1970. Around 1974, Lynn moved to 6 Flinders Street, East Maitland. Living there at the time were Hunter Albert Redman and his mother, Clarice Matilda Redman. Lynn lived with Redmans for many years there before marrying Hunter around 1988. Clarice was no longer with them then, having died in 1979. Once married, Hunter and Lynn moved out of their Flinders Street home. In fact, they moved many times over the next ten years or so, but remained within the Maitland / Cessnock area. In turn, they lived at: 3 Cessnock Road, Gillieston Heights (1988 - 1990); 35 Aberdare Street, Pelaw Main (1990 - 1993); 58 Harle Street, Abermain (1993 - 1997); 58 Adams Street, Heddon Greta (1997 - 1999); then 335 Lang Street, Kurri Kurri. Lynn Catherine Redman (nee Gill) died on 04/05/2000. Hunter moved twice more after Lynn's passing: to 113 Rawson Street, Kurri Kurri, in 2002; then to 92 Cessnock Road, Neath, in 2003. He lived there until at least 2008. Hunter Redman died on 11/12/2013. Lynn and Hunter are buried together, along with Hunter's parents, in the East Maitland Cemetery. Lynn and Hunter did not have any children.   |

Peter John Gill JnrPeter John Gill Jnr was born on 06/02/1926. He served in the RAAF (Service Number: 440915), enlisting on 24/03/1944 and being discharged on 02/11/1948. According to electoral rolls, Peter Jnr was living at 99 Gregory Terrace, Brisbane, and working as a shop assistant in 1954-55. However, by 1958, he had married Dorothy Maud Jacobsen and they were living at 24 Bellevue Road, Bellevue Hill, with Peter working as a labourer. Peter's sister, Lynn Gill, was living with them at that address. Opposite is a photo of Peter Jnr and Dorothy Gill. At the time of his father's death in 1963, Peter Jnr and Dorothy were living at his father's house at 5 Angela Street, Tweed Heads. We understand that, in those early 1960s, Peter Jnr owned three fruit shops: one in each of Tweed Heads, Tweed Heads South, and Banora Point. He also had a fruit run in the local area. Electoral rolls indicate that Peter Jnr and Dorothy were living at 18 Flynn Street, Mount Isa, in 1967. About two years later, they moved within that town to 49 Diane Street. They left Mount Isa around 1971 and moved to 198 James Street, Toowoomba, and lived there for about twenty years. Around 1992, Peter and Dorothy moved from Toowoomba to 34 Theresa Street, Golden Beach, near Caloundra. About a year later, they moved to Kookaburra Village, a retirement village in Mark Road, West Caloundra Peter Gill Jnr died on 28/05/1995. He was buried in the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery. Dorothy Gill died on 07/06/2019. She was buried alongside Peter Jnr, and the original tombstone for Peter was replaced with a new, shared tombstone, shown opposite. After Peter's death, Dorothy had left Caloundra and moved back to Toowoomba, living in an apartment at 14 Payne Street in the early 2000s, then in a house at 4 Norman Street after 2003. Peter Jnr and Dorothy Gill had three children (two boys and one girl): Kathryn May, born 21/06/1958 in Sydney; Peter John, born 09/08/1960 in Southport; and John Joseph, born 13/06/1963 in Southport. Dorothy also had a son Robert Jewell from a previous marriage.   |

Barry Joseph GillBarry Joseph Gill was born on 25/07/1929. He served in the RAN (Royal Australian Navy) after WWII (Service Number: 32967). The linked documents give Barry's home address c.1946 as 5 Angela Street, Tweed Heads, and his occupation as "taxi driver", presumably driving his father's taxi. In the 1954 Electoral Roll, Barry Gill is shown to be living with his brother Peter Gill Jnr at 99 Gregory Terrace, Brisbane, and working, like Peter Jnr, as a shop assistant. Barry Gill married Yvonne Maria Gill in the Newcastle district on 29/03/1968. Other than his marriage, we are unsure of Barry's circumstances during the 1960s. We think that he rejoined the RAN during that decade and was involved in overseas deployments. By 1972, it appears that Barry had left the navy and was living, with Yvonne, at 21/75 Wardell Road, Dulwich Hill, in Sydney, and employed as a transport worker. In the mid-1970s, Barry and Yvonne moved to 67 Griffith Street, Coolangatta, and then to 19 Floral Avenue, Tweed Heads South, around 1977. They were living at 169 Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads West, in 1979, but within a year they moved again to 31 Jacaranda Avenue, Tweed Heads West. Around 1983, they moved to 36 St Kilda Crescent, Tweed Heads West, where they then seemed to settle: they lived there into the 1990s. Barry Gill died on 07/10/1995 and was buried in the Murwillumbah Lawn Cemetery. Yvonne Gill died around 2019, though we have no specific date. Barry and Yvonne Gill had two children (one boy and one girl): Mark Christian and Belinda Hazel.   |
